Ferragamo is En Pointe for Spring/Summer 2025

Those who can’t dance say the music is no good.

The young Creative Director of FerragamoMaximilian Davis, is brilliant at breathing life into the house’s archives while bridging those references with his own experiences. For Ferragamo Spring/Summer 2025, his exploration of “off-duty ballerina” style brought together the house’s past in making custom shoes for ballet icons like Rudolf Nureyev and Kathrine Dunham with Davis’s own life growing up in Trinidad. The choreographer and ballet dancer known as the “matriarch and queen mother of black dance,” Dunham, studied the dance forms of the Caribbean in Trinidad—bringing an emotional quality to Davis’s choice to use her as the show’s muse.

Ballet codes were explored in obvious ways, as was the case of many leotard and body-warmer looks. To me, these read as costumes, and the collection fared better when subtlety was employed. The classic blush pink ballet leotard was transformed into a draped-and-knotted asymmetrical dress, the Black Swan-esque frayed knit dress, and a series of extremely beautiful ribbon-wrapped shoes.

Off-duty codes in general included a fetching array of billowing outerwear and rumpled drop-waist trenches that really spoke to the throw-on-and-go nature of the pieces. Yet, the moments I couldn’t peel my eyes away from all came in the form of bags and shoes. The bags were roomy, squishy, and worn casually slung under the arm. In footwear, the peeled-open kitten heels, the pointy snug heels, and furry pumps were real winners.

The tone-on-tone suits, voluminous print dresses, and laser-cut leather coats are all sure to be found in the closets of the world’s fashionable set come next season. Even in a more casual voice, Davis’s Ferragamo is glamorous and put-together; the kind of woman many aspire to be.

Even in a more casual voice, Davis’s Ferragamo is GLAMOROUS and PUT-TOGETHER; the kind of woman many aspire to be.
